Why does the sickness trend graph show non-working days?


The sickness trend graph is intended to give an indication as to whether an employee is displaying a pattern in their sickness and so it is important to monitor the blocks of sickness in their entirety rather than excluding non-working days. In this way, it is easier to identify if there are specific days that the employee tends to take off as sick.

An employee who regularly takes Mondays off will show a definite trend for Monday only:

Whereas an employee who takes a one-off Thursday to Tuesday sickness will show an even spread across the days Thursday through to Tuesday (including the weekend to show a continuous period).

Compare with someone who has taken single instances of sickness on a Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday:
